EXPERIENCE

Air Liquide (Balazs), Fremont, CA, 4/06 to 5/06.  Technical Writer– Document the existing Business Process, Tier 1 (network hardware) and Tier 2 (networked applications) configurations. This included both a Data Flow and Support Flow for this analytical chemistry laboratory. Documentation was prepared in report (Word) and presentation (Power Point) format, using Visio for data flows.

Ameriquest Mortgage, Orange, CA, 6/04 to 8/05. Technical Writer– Prepare Users Guides, Systems Documentation and SOX Process Procedure documents for financial databases and applications related to the mortgage business. Created templates for the documents, worked with developers and users to obtain the necessary software information, coordinated with external SOX auditors and internal Security to ensure proper document content and interfaced with management for scheduling and priorities.

Ameriquest Mortgage, Orange, CA, 8/03 to 12/03. Technical Writer – Inventory databases and severs and document the interfaces for production SQL and Oracle databases. Prepare Standards and Procedures for the Database Services Group. Interface data displayed using Visio and converted to graphic format for the Intranet. Text documents created using Word and converted to RoboHelp for the Intranet.

Independent Consultant, 10/02 to 8/03 - Projects included Technical Writing, Web Site Training, new system definition and general systems support for desktop systems

Xerox, El Segundo, CA, 2/02 to 9/02. Technical Writer - Prepared documentation for a Xerox proprietary software language and tool kit used for the development of custom print drivers under MS Windows 2000, XP and NT. Documentation was in the form of on-line help and hard copy. Information obtained from interviewing developers, review of code samples and creation of a sample Printer Drivers, including the PPD and XPD (Xerox Proprietary) files, installation and testing. Tools used included RoboHelp Office 2002, MS Word, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Del-Jen, Inc., Rolling Hills Estates, CA, 8/01 to 11/01. Proposal Manager - Prepared proposals in response to US Government Requests for Proposals for services and construction projects. Responsible for full proposal preparation, including definition of requirements, technical and management text inputs, graphics, publication and submission to customer on schedule. This position required interface with other technical writers, graphic artists, on-site construction management, joint venture partners and subcontractors.

Security First Group, Los Angeles, CA, 12/00 to 6/01. Consultant - Developed documentation for financial, Distributed Applications software. Supported the planning and scheduling for the transition of these Distributed Applications to other facilities. Developed mainframe Standards and Procedures Manual for the IS Department. The manual covered proprietary financial software, system libraries and data and JCL/COBOL standards. Both projects required research on mainframe and client/server systems, Internet and local documentation and interviews with personnel to obtain necessary data.
Independent Consultant, 10/00 to 12/00. Projects included White Paper preparation for an ISP, and desktop system, network, Internet and general systems support for a Graphics/Printing and a PR firm.

Sony Pictures Entertainment, Culver City, CA, 9/00 to 9/00. Consultant - Using the actual undocumented software, developed a "quick-start" manual for temporary cashiers using new Point-Of-Sales cash register software.

Cyberverse, Inc., Torrance, CA, 6/00 to 9/00. Consultant - Created technical documentation for products offered and developed a new-hire tutorial for this Internet Service Provider business. Evaluated, recommended and installed contact tracking and help desk software. Recommended targeted marketing/sales approach, developed marketing and sales plans, prepared all supporting sales documents and performed the search for sales people.

Brand3, Los Angeles, CA, 4/00 to 6/00. Consultant - For this Internet startup, developed documentation to support the release of new software that delivered enhanced, branded Internet services to a defined audience. Documentation included:

  • On-line Help package covering the downloading, installation, configuration and use of the software as provided to the end user. Creation of this package required process validation.
  • A limited version help package for use off-line (integrated into the downloaded software).
  • Specified and created the required documentation to accompany the release of the product.

On-line Help created in HTML using MS FrontPage. Graphics created using Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator.

LA Air Force Base (Logicon), El Segundo, CA, 12/99 to 2/00. Technical Writer - Researched and prepared procedures for the Help Desk and new Help Desk Trouble Ticket software. (Help desk supported 4000 network users.) Process required:

  • Interviewing the Help Desk Trouble Ticket software developers.
  • Self-training on new Help Desk software.
  • Interviewing network engineers and Help Desk personnel to define undocumented procedures.
  • Creation of numerous graphics, including screen shots to support the documentation.
  • Defining administration procedures to prepare an Administrators Guide.

Juggernaut Partners,LLC (Exist.com), Santa Monica, CA 8/99 to 11/99. Technical Writer - Developed Customer Care documentation for this Internet start-up company as follows:

  • Using undocumented software, document and develop procedures for the user interface.
  • Research and prepare Operating Procedures for on-line Chat systems and customer care agents.
  • Develop and present the rationale used by the customer care agents to resolve a customer event.

Nissan, Gardena, CA, 9/98 to 7/99. Technical Writer - Researched and prepared Technical Service Bulletins for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles. Process required:

  • Obtaining basic information from Automotive Engineers and developing detailed procedures to perform the required vehicle modifications and/or updates.
  • Using digital camera, collect necessary photographic data from vehicles to support the procedures.
  • Using contract graphic artists, convert photos to line art for insertion in documents.
  • Perform minor graphic touchup using Illustrator and PhotoShop.
  • Produce final documents in MS Word, PageMaker and PDF format and create CD masters for the service bulletins and service manuals for distribution to dealerships.

Webmaster for the Technical Publications Intranet Web Page: supported and updated the page using MS FrontPage and modified and published all Technical Service Bulletins on the corporate Intranet.

Research and prepare a hardcopy version of the Vehicle Administration Operating Procedures, a software users guide, to support National production ordering and distribution. This required coordination with analysts and management to obtain the required basic information, interviewing current software users to identify undocumented procedures and scanning and touchup of screen images for document graphics.
